Ten years of progress in environmental reporting were commemorated at the tenth ACCA UK Environmental Reporting Awards at the British Library in London today. Five awards were made to mark achievement in the year 2000 while a further four were announced for sustained contribution during the first decade of the scheme.
There were two overall winners for the ACCA Environmental Reporting Awards for the year 2000: Shell International and Co-operative Bank plc. The panel also made two awards for best small business environmental report. The winners were: Bovince Limited and Wastebusters Limited. A fifth award – for best first time reporter – went to Carillion plc. The speakers were: UK Environment Minister The Rt Hon Michael Meacher MP, SustainAbility chairman John Elkington and Robert Massie, chairman of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
ACCA’s Technical Director Roger Adams, who devised the original scheme, has chaired the judging panel since 1991. He says "This year, as a special category to mark the 10th anniversary of the ERA, the judges wished to recognise the pioneering UK environmental reporters by giving them a unique ACCA environmental reporting award. They have been chosen to receive this award for their consistent presence over the past decade, either in the list of award winners or in the annual ERA shortlist."
Four companies have been given the ACCA award for Continued Excellence in Environmental Reporting in recognition of their contribution to the development of environmental reporting over the past decade:

* BP Amoco p.l.c
* British Airways plc
* British Telecommunications plc
